World Premiere of New Jazz Work in Litchfield November 2nd
The Sherman Chamber Ensemble is proud to announce the world premiere of a new work by composer/pianist Ted Rosenthal entitled “Excursions and Impressions,” to be presented on Sunday, November 2nd at 3:00 PM at the Litchfield Community Center in Litchfield, CT. Commissioned by the Sherman Chamber Ensemble, the 30-minute work in four movements is inspired by the composer’s long personal and performance history with the Ensemble and its co-founders, Eliot Bailen and Susan Rotholz. “Ted has perfectly captured the eclectic style of our group,” says SCE Artistic Director Bailen. “The new work takes us on excursions into many of the styles that SCE has offered its listeners over the years, from tango and samba to the Sephardic tradition and the standard jazz trio repertoire. Ted’s virtuosity as a jazz pianist combined with his classical training gives him vision into both worlds in a way few composers have.” The work will showcase the talents of Susan Rotholz (flute), Eliot Bailen (cello), Alan Kay (clarinet), Rosenthal on jazz piano, bassist Thomson Kneeland and drummer Chris Parker. Also on the program will be tangos by Astor Piazzolla, a selection of Gershwin songs and one of Rosenthal’s signature “Jazzing Up the Classics” improvisations on themes from the great classical masters.
This world premiere performance is co-sponsored by the Litchfield Jazz Festival/Litchfield Performing Arts and represents the 2nd year of this partnership to bring the special artistry of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble to audiences throughout the Litchfield area.
Admission is $20 at the door. The Community Center is located at 421 Bantam Road in Litchfield. For reservations and information, call the Sherman Chamber Ensemble at 860-355-5930, write to P.O. Box 578, Sherman, CT 06784 or visit SCE's website at www.shermanchamberensemble.com.
